Whole-House Water Treatment Systems – As Important As Water Itself

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

If optimal health is a goal you aspire to, then a home water treatment system is a must have in your household.

America’s water supply is suspect to say the least. Many studies have shown that vast array of pharmaceuticals and other chemical contaminants are present in our treated water supply.

As a matter of fact, the well respected Ralph Nader Research Institute estimates that there are around 21,000 different contaminants found in the U.S water supply.

Many experts have blamed the increased incidences of cancer and learning disorders on the contaminants found in our water supply.

Whole-house water treatment systems are a great way to ensure that your household water quality is top notch and that you have a reduced exposure to these health risks.

Here are some of the benefits of using such a system:

1. A home water treatment system that is independently tested and proven to remove the highest amounts of contaminants in your tap water will give you the cleanest water possible. The type of water that is better than “bottled water quality” and that you can safely drink and shower with, without any worries.

Bear in mind that some whole-house water treatment systems remove the vital minerals contained in water that our bodies need. Make sure you find out from the retailer if the home water treatment system you intend on buying doesn’t do this.

2. The EPA says that American homes have elevated levels of chloroform due to the vaporization of the chlorine from their taps, dishwashers, washing machines and showers. This is suspected to have caused various respiratory problems within households.

Having a whole-house water treatment will reduce the amount of chlorine within the water and consequently improve overall air quality.

3. Not only does a home water treatment system improve the healthfulness of water within your home but it also is a huge cost saver.

When filtered water is used in the dishwasher and washing machine, less detergent is needed and the items are better cleaned.

Washing with unfiltered water leaves a soapy residue on dishes but this is not the case when using filtered water. Also, since filtered water is dechlorinated, the colors of your clothes last longer after being washed in the washing machine.

Consider also the amount of money that you’ll save on bottled water over time. Whole-house water systems are reasonably priced and not expensive to install. When you compare its cost to the amount of money you have spent on bottled water, its well worth getting one.

It can’t be stressed enough tat before you purchase a home water treatment systemArticle Search, you should ask for the the documentary evidence supporting it’s performance claims. This will help you choose the one that best suits your needs.

Whole-house water treatment systems are no longer some fad or status symbol whose time has passed. It is really an appliance that you should go out a buy right now if you don’t already have one.

Prioritizing Needs and Treatment for Children with Autism

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

I recently had a parent refer to the many needs of her daughter in this way: “It’s like there are three floors of the house burning! Where do we start and which level do we fight the fire on first?” This provides an excellent visual metaphor for determining priorities in treatment.

When a child has autism, or another neurodevelopmental disorder, there are many areas of need to consider. The pervasive nature of the diagnosis leaves little unscathed in terms of development and functioning. The extent to which each area of functioning is impacted varies, but it’s safe to say that all children on the spectrum are affected by their autism in numerous areas. There are communication problems, social interaction problems, restricted behaviors, rigid thinking, and other issues that come from having the core deficits of autism. Then, for many kids on the spectrum, there are the co-occurring problems to address such as impulsivity, feeding problems, sensory processing problems, motor deficits, academic problems, and more. The list can go on and on depending on the child and it can, indeed, feel like all three floors of the house are burning.

Once you have carefully and thoroughly identified the conditions and areas of functioning that require treatment, the question becomes what to treat, when to treat it, and how to treat it. The pervasive nature of these disorders is the equivalent of a house that burning from a fire that started in the foundation. There are a few options to consider when making these decisions:

  • If all three floors are burning, there may be a tendency to decide to try to throw a lot of water on everything in an effort to put the entire fire out at once. I have seen parents do this and the result is generally unfortunate for everyone involved. Parents can become completely overwhelmed trying to address everything at once; comprehending multiple therapies, driving to get to therapies, having many people in your home, paying for services, and trying to stay emotionally stable in the midst of it all. Trying to treat everything at once can lead to burned out parents and burned out kids. It can also lead to the house burning down, because by throwing water at the whole fire at once you will not be able to concentrate enough in one area to make a real dent in the fire. You might keep the fire from spreading, and you might reduce the flames a little on each level, but the fire itself will keep on burning on every level.
  • One could also decide to concentrate water on the area that seems to be the most obvious – the top of the house where the flames are shooting out. This can be thought of as the approach of treating the most obvious problems first – my child isn’t talking, doesn’t look at me, doesn’t know how to make friends, and/or doesn’t behave normally; so we’re going to treat those things right away. That seems like a logical plan on the surface, but the problem is that it is the equivalent of putting out the fire from the top floor first. You might save the top floor, but there is no foundation to hold it up. What you end up with is part of a house that is salvaged, but can’t support itself. This is what happens when we choose a skill-based approach to treatment that does not focus on core developmental issues that need to be addressed.
  • A third approach is to concentrate efforts on the base of the house first by putting out the fire there, and then working your way up to the higher levels of the house. This approach is the equivalent of working on the foundational developmental skills, abilities, and milestones that must be achieved in order for a child to make long-term developmental progress. It can be a difficult choice to make because it feels like the things that are most obvious are not being treated right away. It can feel like too much of the fire is allowed to burn while efforts are concentrated on one area at the base. However, this is the choice that must be made for long-term gain. It is in focusing on the core deficit areas of autism in developmentally appropriate and specifically targeted ways that we move forward.

As parents and professionals we have to recognize that there is only so much “water” to go around – only so many hours in the day, energy to expend, knowledge that can be absorbed, money that can be spent; the list goes on. We need to consider the idea that it is not necessarily about getting more water, it is about how that water is used. It is about:

  • Understanding exactly what needs to be treated and prioritizing those needs so that a treatment plan is developed to work in everyone’s best interest, without extending beyond resources that are not there.
  • Understanding that by treating foundational developmental issues, many other problems begin to fall away. By taking a bottom-up approach we address areas of development that snowball and create change across the board in the way a child thinks, communicates, and behaves.
  • Prioritizing family health above all else. We must recognize that if the needs of everyone in the family unit are sacrificed in the name of doing “more” to treat autism, then in the end everything can be lost.
  • Knowing how to make the most of the time, energy, and finances you can in targeting the core issues of the child’s disability.
  • Refusing to run around trying anything and everything; making yourself, your child, and everyone around you irritable, tired, frustrated, and financially drained in the process.

Think about how you are prioritizing the needs of your child. Are you able to rest assured that you are targeting what needs to be targeted for now, and that everything else needs to be left for later? Do you have a strategy that is allowing you to put out the fire from the source instead of blindly aiming water at the obvious flames? Do you have a good balance in your family where autism is one part of what you focus on as a family, and not the thing that takes up everyone’s time, energy, and finances? These issues are critical to consider when initially making treatment decisionsFree Reprint Articles, and must be revisited frequently along the journey of providing for the needs of your child and family.

How To Avoid Unnecessary Tests And Treatment When Having Difficulty In Conceiving

Monday, January 26th, 2009

When a couple has being trying to conceive for more than a year without any result. If sexual intercourse has been taking place normally- Yet no pregnancy occurs. If you suspect either of you has a problem not yet identified by the doctors- and you desire to avoid all the hassles of infertility treatment, this is what you can do.

I’m not advising you not to go to your doctor please. God uses doctors to do great miracles in our lives. But after a few failed infertility tests and treatments, you may want to give God’s word a chance to bless you. What you do is your personal choice and decision God will never dishonour your choices.

Here is my suggestion to you based on the Word of God. You have to speak to your body. The Bible says “the lips of the wise will protect them.” (Proverbs 14:3.). This means that if you choose to be wise now you will protect yourself from suffering and pain.

The Word of God says that the tongue that brings healing is a tree of life- (Proverbs 15: 4. This means your own words can bring healing into your body when you speak in line with God’s Word.

Let’s look at some of the medical investigation you will undergo when you go to the infertility clinic for testing.

Medical investigations to discover the cause of infertility for a Woman:

A menstrual history will be taken. This will include a study of body temperature during the menstrual cycle. This gives an indication of the time of ovulation. A blood and urine test will also be done to discover whether ovulation is normal.

Body Temperature and Ovulation: Charting a woman’s body temperature during her menstrual cycle can indicate abnormalities of ovulation.

Hysterosalpingoo-ography: This is an x-ray technique used to visualise the uterus and Fallopian tubes- to determine whether or not there is any abnormality.

Laparoscopy: With this technique, a laparoscopy (a type of viewing tube) is inserted through the abdominal wall. This is to examine the woman’s reproductive organs – and determine whether an abnormality, such as a cyst or tumour, is present.

After looking at the medical investigation, that will normally be done at the fertility clinic. We can now go straight into the Word of God to hear God’s word on this issue. To determine on what the Word of God does in our body. In dealing with this we are going to be using the word of God from Hebrews 4:12.

The Word of God has no side effects- because it works with your faith. The word of God does not dishonour the wisdom and guidance of your doctor. The word of God will not prevent you or say to you do not go to your doctor. The word of God works above the natural and will brings us supernatural results- but will never violate the natural.

The Woman’s confession: This is how you will apply the Word to your reproductive organs. Father, I thank you and praise you in Jesus’ name. I take your Word which is quick, sharp, effective, energising, operative, analysing and now I speak to my reproductive system.

I suggest-Using the Word of God to analyze and energise the bodyMy Vagina and cervix:

In the mighty name of Jesus -I ask the Word of God to analyse my vagina and my cervix. If any weakness or hidden disorder exists, I ask the Word of God to restore and renew these part. If there is any part of my cervix or vagina that needs energising; I Praise the Word of God for energising those parts in the name of Jesus. I thank you Father that my entire reproductive organs are working the way you ordained them to work. My vagina and cervix is strong and strengthened by the power of Your Word. Thank You Father.

The Womb. I subject my uterus to the analysing power of God’s Word. I command that it be analysed and if any abnormality exists which may prevent the implantation of a fertilised egg, I ask the Word of God through faith to operate and destroy any such abnormality. I ask the Word of God to create the right environment that will sustain the life of the baby the Father has blessed me with in faith. I speak these words in faith in Jesus’ name. Amen.

The Ovaries I speak to my ovaries. If there is any reason why my eggs fail to mature or may not be released- I command in Jesus’ name that the Word of God begin to energise my ovaries. I praise God’s word for facilitating normal operation of my ovaries in Jesus’ name.

The fallopian Tubes I speak to my Fallopian tubes in Jesus’ name. I subject my tubes to the analysing power of God’s Word. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. If any blockage or damage exists that could prevent my husband’s sperm reaching my eggs- let God’s word heal it now. If anything is wrong with my fallopian tubes – I command that the Word of God operate and unblock my fallopian tubes. Make them function normally Oh Lord. I thank you Father that my tubes can now transport life in Jesus name. Amen.

A prayer on your behalf or for anyone looking for a childFather, in the name of Jesus Christ, I pray for my sister reading this article. Under the authority you have given me, I pray that, as she confesses your Word into her body, that your Word will bring light and dispel darkness. I stand in agreement with herComputer Technology Articles, that you will grant her the desires of her heart in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Good news: I gave this confession to a friend who has been trying to conceive for some years. Now she is pregnant.

What are the options for Aspergers Treatment?

Sunday, January 18th, 2009

This is a question that I am regularly asked by the readers of the newsletter that I write for parents who have children with Aspergers. The first point to say is that in my opinion the signs of Aspergers can’t be “cured” outright. Nor do I think that focusing on “cure” is helpful for parents or children. As to “cure” someone applies that they are somehow ill or sick in the first place. Children with Aspergers are not sick or ill but just different – but only in the way that we are all different and have our own “certain ways”. And isn’t that what makes the world such an exciting place? But that is a whole discussion in itself and not the focus of this article, so I won’t go further off topic now!

That said about “cures”, there are a number of options to look at when it comes to Aspergers Treatment. Most children benefit from early specialized interventions that focus on behavior management and social skills training. Many children with Aspergers can learn the unwritten rules of socialization and communication when they are taught in an explicit and rote fashion. Similar to the way students learn foreign languages. Because for children with Aspergers the main challenge is that these types of social skills (such as what to say in certain situations) don’t come naturally to them. But children with Aspergers tend to have excellent cognitive ability so can learn these skills just fine with the right “teachers” (this can be in school but even more so at home with family and friends).

Children with Aspergers may also learn how to speak in a more natural rhythm, as well as how to interpret communication techniques used by others, such as gestures, eye contact, tone of voice, humor and sarcasm. Behavior therapy describes numerous techniques aimed at curbing problem behaviors, such as interrupting, obsessions, meltdowns or violent outbursts. Behavior therapies usually focus on training a child to recognize a troublesome situation – such as a new place or an event with lots of social demands – and then select a specific learned strategy to cope with the situation.

One issue for many children with Aspergers is that they may well become prone to anxiety or depression in life. Often this can occur around the time of adolescence when they are really beginning to notice differences with their class mates and peers. So as with anyone experiencing such issues there may be treatments that can be helpful. Some medications may improve specific behaviors, such as anxiety, depression or hyperactivity. This is obviously one to talk to your general medical practitioner about. Although I personally am not big on medication (although in more severe cases it definitely has it’s place) so would also look at other forms of treatment such as herbal approaches (like St. John’s Wort), homeopathy, helping your child to voice their problems, getting regular exercise etc. to combat the issues.

Treatment for Aspergers often involves a team of professionals that may include a speech and language pathologist, a psychologist, a social worker, a psychiatrist, or a developmental pediatrician, in addition to your child’s primary care physician. It’s often possible for children with Aspergers to succeed in mainstream schools, with the help of teachers and special education instructors. However, make sure your child’s teachers understand how he or she learns best and what situations might be troublesome. In children with Aspergers, high intelligence and good verbal skills can mask areas of real deficiency, so teachers may not realize that special teaching techniques, support services and extra attention are really necessary.

So to summarise this article I would say that there are definitely a number of important Aspergers treatments that can be used to help improve the quality of life for the child and their family. However to my knowledge there is no “cure” for Aspergers and it is my belief that Aspergers is not something that needs to be cured anyway. But treatments such as behavior management, social skills training, speech and language therapyHealth Fitness Articles, and appropriate medical/alternative treatments can be very helpful indeed. Both school and home life play a crucial part in co-ordinating and organizing these treatments.

Finding An Effective Allergy Treatment

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

As well as for everything else, prevention is the best cure, and that applies for the allergies too. The best thing to do is to try avoiding any triggers that can cause such a reaction in your body. In case you have an allergy to dust, then just leave dusting the house and vacuum cleaning to someone else. There is no reason to take that risk if you can easily avoid doing that.

Definitely you need your environment kept clean. And of course the treatment of avoiding dust is not realistically applicable at all times, but still you can take a few precautions for helping yourself to breathe easier. In case you know that there is a chance for you to be exposed to dust, just wear a protective mask. The embarrassment of looking silly for a short while is not as important as protecting your own health. Another step you can easily undertake is to ensure good ventilation of the area you are dusting.

Food allergies unfortunately are very dangerous and people who have such need to entirely avoid certain foods like eggs, strawberries or peanuts that trigger their reactions. In some of the cases reactions are so severe that it becomes a matter of life and death. In such cases of severe allergic reactions especially to foods it is very dangerous and unwise to try taking care of them at home. And what should be actually done in such cases is not to waste any time but get the person to the hospital where best treatment can be provided to him/her.

There are though some weaker reactions with milder symptoms. Those can be taken care of with allergy treatment from the local pharmacy. Your doctor can offer an effective nonprescription drug that can help in such situations and you can even get a stock of it so that in case it happens you wont have to rush out searching where to get it from.

Benadryl is one of the most popular medications for allergic reactions. It is a nonprescription medication, but still it has to be taken with caution. It can affect your reactions and impair the driving abilities or make you feel drowsy. It also affects concentration and the ability to work and it is not advisable to take it for more than only a few days in row.

The most effective way to treat allergic reactions is by taking medication, but you definitely must take into consideration all the side effects such medication can causeFind Article, and decide if they are worth the temporary relief especially of milder symptoms. As some people in fact react to drowsiness worse than to their congestion or ithcings.

Nature, An ADHD Natural Treatment

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

My mother’s warning; “You are going to rot your brain out…” still rings through my mind whenever I spend too much time in front of the television set.

I grew up in a time when mothers shooed their children out – rain, snow or shine – to get a breath of fresh air. Our television set tuned in to only four or five channels and those channels signed off at midnight. It would be years before cable television, satellite dish, VCRs and Nintendo would debut. Lazy summer days were spent riding bicycles for hours because there wasn’t much of anything better to do.

This period of time was also a few decades before Ritalin and Attention Deficit would become commonplace terms.

I have long believed that inactive hours spent indoors has contributed to the increased incidence of Attention Deficit Disorder. A recent study, published in the September 2004 issue of the “American Journal of Public Health,” validates that believe.

University of Illinois researchers studied nature as an ADHD natural treatment. This study showed that children with ADHD benefit from time outdoors enjoying nature with a significant reduction of ADHD symptoms.

Researchers of this nationwide recruited the parents of 322 boys and 84 girls, all diagnosed with ADHD, through ads in major newspapers and the Internet. Participants, ages 5 to 18, spent time in a variety of settings which varied from big cities to rural settings. Some activities were conducted indoors, others in outdoor places without much greenery such as parking lots and downtown areas and other activities were in “green” areas such as a tree-lined street, back yards or parks. The parents were interviewed and asked to report how their children performed after participating in a wide range of activities.

The researchers found that symptoms were reduced most in green outdoor settings, even when the same activities were compared across different settings. Researchers believe that simply incorporating nature into a child’s day could be widely effective in reducing ADHD symptoms.

Based on the results of this ADHD natural treatment study, researchers recommend that children with ADHD spend quality after-school hours and weekend time outdoors enjoying nature.

Study authors Frances E. Kuo and Andrea Faber Taylor suggested that daily doses of ”green time” might supplement medications and behavioral approaches to ADHD if clinical trials and additional research confirm the value of nature as a natural treatment for ADHD.

The study findings indicate that exposure to ordinary natural settings in the course of common after-school and weekend activities may be widely effective in reducing attention deficit symptoms in children.

In each comparison (there were 56 in all), green outdoor activities received more positive ratings over the activities taking place in other settings. In 54 of the 56, the difference was significant, signaling that the findings were consistent.

Researchers said that exposing ADHD children to nature is an affordable, healthy method of controlling symptoms. Researchers also suggested that daily doses of “green time” can supplement medications and other traditional treatments of ADHD.

Simply using nature may offer a way to help manage ADHD symptoms that is readily available, doesn’t have any stigma associated with it, doesn’t cost anything, and doesn’t have any side effects.

ADHD natural “green” treatment has endless possibilities, many of which might closely resemble childhoods from years long past.

Here are just a few ideas for increasing “green time”:
_ Play in a green yard or ball field at recess and after school.
_ Take after-dinner walks.
_ Make a scarecrow.
_ Doing class work or homework outside or at a window with a relatively green view.
_ Build a birdhouse.
_ Grow an outdoor garden.
_ Bike, ski, sledFree Articles, inline skate…
_ Visit a nature center.
_ Choose a greener route for the walk to school.
_ Participate in local nature clean-ups.
_ Take up bird watching.
_ Star gaze.

Infertility Treatment – How To Use 1 Unconventional Way To Solve This Problem

Monday, October 6th, 2008

There are lots of ways to solve infertility problems. Using the conventional and unconventional way. First of all, one has to identify what causes infertility, is it internal or external. However, there is 1 unconventional way to solve this problem.

We may have heard of in-vitro fertilization, sperm donors, clomid and other medications as some routes taken for infertility treatment. Have you ever think of adoption?

Some people may argue that this is not exactly infertility treatment, but this is one of the ways to have a baby, right?

Yes, technically, this is not the usual kind of infertility treatment, but it does give a solution to a couple wanting to raise children.

It may seems like a last resort for those couples that had already undergone, cycle after cycle of infertility treatment, they may have thought that it is nature’s call of hinting them that they were destined to provide a loving home for children even if they are not biologically theirs.

Factors to consider when thinking of adoption.

#1 Yes, this way is not painful at all.

There are no needles and medications with side effects that a conventional infertility treatment may have, but adoption is not painless. However, there is this emotional strain of making this life-changing decision and choosing a child can take a toll on anyone’s health.

#2 Adoption is very expensive.

The costs of travelling, doing the paperwork, traveling expenses and stocking up on baby supplies can out-weigh the huge medical bills of their infertility treatment. For your information, there are virtually no insurance coverage for infertility treatment.#3 It is not as simple as it seems.

There are traditions and culture to take note as the adopted child may have different culture and traditions from you. Holidays, names, food and dress are some areas adoptive parents might need to consider if they want to preserve their new baby’s heritage.

#4 There is no guaranteed to adoption.

The couple might not be qualified for an adoption due to financial reviews. Also, the child might not be physically healthy and able. With this, you might still be able to change your mind. Even, there is not guaranteed to infertility treatment that you might get pregnant.

#5 The problem to convincing yourself, other than your children and other family members. With an infertility treatment, sympathy is on your side. With adoption, your family might be very co-operative and encouraging.

#6 It is simply rewarding.

The advantages and disadvantages discussed, it out-weighed the realities of adoption accepted. The satisfaction feelings for the family who choose to go ahead with it are simple great.

The joy of adopt a child with a food, shelter and clothing and best of all, love that he or she might not have otherwise had is difficult to quantify.

There are also some irony that there are many case on how infertile couples have conceived soon after adopting because their minds and bodies were more at peace. Their bodies are more relax now that they know they have a child to share with them their joys and misery of life.

ThereforeBusiness Management Articles, Eddy has started a information guide on how to help people to deal with infertility and possibly offer good solutions.

Natural Treatment for Constipation

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

Copyright (c) 2007 Liddle Kidz™ Infant and Children’s Pediatric Massage

Many parents find that their little ones may have some difficulty with digestion. Constipation occurs for everyone at some time in their life, but can cause pain and discomfort for your baby. There are many different methods you can try to help relieve this discomfort however; I have found infant massage specifically for constipation to be very effective.

Massage can be helpful in encouraging your baby’s bowels to move. Before starting any massage for baby:

- Make sure the room is warm enough (especially if removing baby’s clothing)

- Relax yourself

- Warm your hands by rubbing them together

- Ask baby’s permission to start massage by making eye contact and verbally asking out loud “Is it okay if I massage your Tummy?”

You can massage over clothing, but for tummy massage, I would recommend you use a little oil and massage directly on the skin. The warmth of skin to skin contact can be very helpful for constipation as well.

For oil, use all natural vegetable or fruit based oil, something edible. Good choices that you may already have at home include grape seed oil or olive oil. Put a small drop of oil in your hands, about the size of a coin, and rub together to warm. Show baby what you are doing, he’ll start to associate the sight and sound with what comes next.

When doing these massage strokes, use a firm but gentle pressure. Always check in with your baby to make sure he likes the massage. Feel free to try a lighter pressure, use a different stroke or just stop if he’s done.

To massage your baby’s tummy, place warmed hands on tummy at or below the belly button. I know it’s a tiny area, but important to target the bowels. Gently stroke downward, using flat palms, hand over hand, a paddling type motion. Next moving hands in a clockwise motion, (very important to move clockwise – if you go the wrong way, you’ll create more issues), stroke baby’s tummy in a circle.

Now we’ll do a 3-part stroke called I Love You!

With baby laying on the floor facing you: (remember clockwise motion)

1. First trace the letter “I” on baby’s left side

2. Next draw an “L” starting on baby’s right side, across the top of the tummy and down baby’s left side

3. Then draw an upside-down “U”

Finish on the tummy by stroking down with warmed flat hands a few times.

During tummy massage your baby may have a bowel movement or release some air – great! You may wish to leave his diaper off during the massage session. Babies like to have the freedom of movement they gain without a diaper, so if you decide to leave it offBusiness Management Articles, just have something underneath in case of any accidents.
