Bespoke Gates Add A Touch of Class To A Property
Thursday, August 20th, 2009People usually erect wrought iron gates or fencing around their property simply to mark the boundary of their grounds or garden, or, to provide a sense of security from the outside world.
In recent years however, these utilitarian purposes have not been the only reasons why wrought iron gates and fence work is being used in homes. Now, aside from providing the necessary security from an increasingly hostile world, the design qualities and workmanship of the wrought iron enhances the aesthetics of any garden and driveway and many homeowners now have their gates and fences made to order.
Custom made, or bespoke, wrought iron gates and fences are made from high quality materials by craftsmen using traditional methods. They look far better than other mass produced products because they are made by hand and will last so much longer than those fences made from cheap and inferior materials.
Not only do they look good on their own but wrought iron gates and fences really do add to the visual impact of the garden or property that they surround. The fence can also provide an additional barrier if a hedge circles the garden. Surprisingly, fencing can also improve the appearance of existing hedging. Not only will a fence contain the growth of a hedge by placing the wrought iron fencing in front of the hedge a very satisfying visual effect is created.
Another design that can be used is the use of clinging vines that would climb up and cover the wrought iron fence. In this manner, many flowering plants such as orchids would be given the opportunity to thrive as they hang in their natural habitat. By providing these kinds of plants a replacement to trees, the wrought iron fence can provide these kinds of plants the stability to grow their roots into.
The second aesthetic effect for wrought iron fences is that the fence would provide and initial and imposing fa???ade to the property. Many artisans nowadays are able to fashion emblems or coat of arms that can be integrated into the over-all design of the fence. When this is done, the wrought iron fence then changes its character from a mere property line protection, but becomes a shield for the inhabitants as the inclusion of the family??s emblem of coat of arms makes certain the identity and the pedigree of the home. With the family coat of arms, the fenced in property also changes its character and uplifts itself to the level of castle from mere home.
The third benefit provided by a wrought iron fence is more psychological than actual. Just think of the number of times you have seen on television huge mansions surrounded by wonderful wrought iron fences. This may seem to be a stretch but do try to remember the last grandiose home you have watched on the telly or on the screen.
You would see that wrought iron fences are staples to these home of the rich and filthy rich. This magic can also be captured by the installation of a wrought iron fence.
And if you want to impress the neighbours than this kind of fencing will really add a touch of class to your property. They look great, look expensive…but are surprisingly affordable. This illusion can further be perpetrated by the use of automation or electrification of the wrought iron fence. This would certainly get oohs and ahh??s from your visitors.
So there are many other purposes of a wrought iron fence. It isn??t just a fence to keep people out
, but a work of art and a piece of magic for the home.
Add a Priceless Personal Touch to Your Poinsettias
Thursday, August 6th, 2009Poinsettias are the most popular holiday plant in the US and with so many colors and varieties available today it’s no wonder why. They bloom at just the right time to make any home even more beautiful for the holidays and modern poinsettias have been carefully bred for decades to withstand the rigors of shipping in just about any climate.
If you plan to give a poinsettia this holiday season, consider adding a personal touch by sharing a short story that tells your recipient even more about their gift. You can just use the parts you want from below and print a note or send an email as a follow-up after it arrives. It’s a small thing to do but adds a nice personal touch.
Here is an opening that works well for me: “I hope you enjoy your Poinsettia as much as I enjoyed learning about it. They have a rich history that impressed me. For example…”
Once you have an opening (or you can skip the opening) just grab whatever blurbs you want from below:
History of the Poinsettia:
Poinsettias are native to Mexico. They were considered to be treasured possessions by the Aztecs of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries and came to be associated with wealth and prosperity.
Two hundred years after the Aztec empire fell; Franciscan monks found a new purpose for these prized poinsettias. Taking note of how beautiful and full the red bloom was during the winter holiday, they used poinsettias as a central part of the “Fiesta Santa Pesebre” (Nativity procession.)
How the Poinsettia got its Name and International Fame: Up until the early nineteenth century poinsettias were still exclusive to regions south of the border, and not seen in the United States. Then in 1828 Joel Poinsett, the first US Ambassador to Mexico, noticed poinsettias during a trip to Mexico and sent cuttings back home to South Carolina.
As a plant native to Mexico, early poinsettias thrived in warm climates but tended not to do as well in the northern United States. They did well enough in South Carolina and ultimately crossed the American southwest all the way back to California, not far from where they started. But being such a well-loved plant, today’s poinsettias have been carefully bred, or cultivated over generations, to thrive in many areas. Just follow some simple instructions on how to care for your poinsettia and you will have a gift that continues to give.
Poinsettia Care:
In general you should keep the following in mind…
1) Keep your poinsettia in bright, yet indirect light.
2) Avoid putting them in areas where they will experience drafts and sudden temperature changes, such as near doors or in foyers.
3) Keep the soil evenly moist but not saturated.

One more thing… If you plan to have a poinsettia sent as a gift
, there’s an easy way to save some money. Search online for a local florist and order directly from them. This saves you the $12.95 (+-) processing fee charged by most of the “800″ floral chain services.
Good luck and enjoy those beautiful poinsettias!
Add A Finishing Touch To Your Home With Window Blinds
Friday, June 19th, 2009
Someone who wants to make their home complete should seriously considering investing in a new set of window blinds. Investing may well be the right word to use, because not only do window blinds work wonders for the home d้cor, they also protect the sun from beating down in your face making your living rooms as well as your bedrooms a much more pleasant place to be.
Another important aspect that having window blinds in your home brings is that they add so much to your privacy, as well as your security. No one can see into your home when you have window blinds in pace. The material used in the production of window blinds is thick enough to prevent the most invasive of prying eyes.
Wooden slatted blinds have become a major fashion item for home owners during the last few years. A major plus with slatted blinds for home owners is that slatted blinds are less inclined to become entangled with each other, which happens often with the lighter plastic “venetian” blinds, because wooden blinds are much heavier.
Any home owner who likes to feel that they have created a special atmosphere will always tell you that window blinds in any room in the house serving as a backdrop for lace or floral curtains can create a really spectacular effect.
An interesting development that has served to make window blinds even more popular among homeowners and designers is that of themed blinds and curtains. In other words, it is now possible to buy a set of matching blinds and curtains in an interesting blend of colors and patterns. Not only that, in order to continue the theme, there a lot of curtain shops who will supply an extra piece of material to make up scatter cushion covers, table cloths or for any other purpose. This can create a very pleasant effect in the home.
These days, due to the wonders of the internet, it is even possible to order window blinds on line, and with considerable cost savings. All that is required is to produce a sketch of the windows involved and the website haberdasher will provide a written quote within 24 hours. If the price is acceptable, which it normally will be
, then the customer simply needs to send their credit card details and their order will be made up and dispatched directly to their home. Of the people who have taken advantage of the cost savings and ease of selection and purchasing the reports have only been favorable.
Did a Teacher Touch Your Life?
Saturday, June 6th, 2009Keeping In Touch With Grandparents
Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009Grandparents are one of the most treasured blessings we can give to our children. It is so delightful, to see the joy and sparkle in their eyes when they get to visit.
Some children are very lucky to live near their grandma and grandpa. Some, aren’t as fortunate. For these kids, it can be sad sometimes. They aren’t able to share things as consistently as their friends can.
Their are wonderful ways for your parents’ and your children, to stay in touch and really get to know each other. It’s an important part of life for both parties’ to be able to be involved with one another.
*Have your son or daughter keep a daily calendar. They can write what they do at school, the weather conditions, and even how they feel each day. Have grandma or grandpa do the same. Then, each month – they can exchange calendars through the mail! A great way to know how each other’s days are going.
*Record cassettes or video tapes, and send them back and forth. Your kids can sing their favorite songs and read their favorite stories.
*Let your children memorize their grandparents’ phone #. Let it be the one number they can call anytime without permission.
*Send pieces of art, school work and drawings.
*Grandma and Grandpa can have a special bond with your kids by sending them care packages every once in awhile. They can include mementos, educational tools and maybe a treat.
If you help cultivate a relationship like this, your children can learn valuable family morals and traditions. Not to mention wisdom! Don’t deprive them from an important bond
, just because they live in separate places. They just might carry the tradition on to their own grandchildren!
ANTIQUE MAPS & PRINTS UNIQUE HOLIDAY GIFTS WITH A PERSONAL TOUCH
Monday, January 26th, 2009Stumped this holiday season for what to give that person with everything? One category of gift that can be found in almost every price range is a genuine antique map or print. Presented framed or matted, or simply as is, an antique map or print is a gift that can be tailored for any individual on your list, and its a gift that will stand out for its thoughtfulness and uniqueness.
Sound expensive? Well, it can be of course, but you may be surprised to learn that antique prints of all kinds can be quite affordable, sometimes starting as low as $25. And yes, they are still the real thing antique, printed works of art on paper, usually hand-colored at the time of publication, and generally more than 100 years old.
The collecting of antique maps and prints is an old pursuit, and one that has been practiced for centuries. This is one of the reasons why there is a well-established worldwide market. Most antique maps and prints on the market today began life as a page in a book perhaps an atlas, or a book of botanical prints, or a natural history book. But dont be put off by the fact that these prints (plates, as they are known in collecting circles) are derived from books. Antique books are very different from the books of today. The pages were printed by a less automated method, sometimes even on a hand-operated press. Illustrated pages (the prints we collect today) were printed separately from the text pages, and, if color was needed, each page was individually hand-colored. These very small print runs were then collated and bound into books, often with a beautiful leather binding. Over the centuries, books were broken apart, and the prints have been circulated ever since. In terms of origin, there is no substantive difference between a large, genuine Audubon print selling for tens of thousands of dollars and a fifty dollar antique print from a lesser known bird book.
The most compelling reason for considering an antique map or antique print as a gift is that it can truly be personalized for just about anyone on your list. First, its obvious that everyone is from somewhere, which means that an antique map of a hometown or country is always a fascinating gift for the recipient. For the United States, it is almost always possible to find a mid-19th century state map, and frequently, town and regional maps as well. If you are looking for an antique map from overseas, choices abound, with country and regional maps from every part of the world (or the known world, depending on the year of publication) and from all time periods.
Antique maps of the home town or the old country are just the beginning when it comes to personalizing a gift. Different genres of maps appeal to different people for example, antique harbor charts or sea charts for the sailors on your list, antique geological maps for rock collectors, antique island maps for travelers, and so on. Turning to antique prints, another world opens up. Antique botanical prints often with gorgeous hand coloring are perfect for gardeners and plant lovers; antique exploration prints for outdoor enthusiasts, antique historical prints, antique fashion prints, antique architectural prints, antique racehorse prints, culinary prints, butterfly prints, nautical prints, sporting prints, even shimmering, illuminated manuscript pages, and much more, are all available. The list, in effect, is almost endless. It is difficult to conceive of the person who, when presented with an antique print that reflects their special interest, could fail to be gratified and made to feel a little more special.
Be creative about your gift list. When choosing an antique map, hometowns and states are the most popular, but also consider college towns, honeymoon spots, favorite vacation places, and so forth. If youre considering a print, then just think about your recipients favorite hobby, food, sport, avocation, or other pastime. It is guaranteed that over the centuries, other people have enjoyed the same things, and the perfect, hand-colored print will be out there.
Where to find antique maps and prints and what to look for? Without question, the internet has revolutionized this field, which for centuries was conducted in dusty old bookshops, antique stores, and by dealer catalog. Dealers abound on the internet, and search engines such as Google or Yahoo. will allow you to access hundreds of antique map and print websites. Begin by visiting a variety of dealer sites. A site such as VintageMaps.com, an internet-based antique map and print dealer since 1997, will give you a feel for the type of material available. When visiting sites, you should feel free to contact the dealer and ask questions about maps or prints that interest you. Make sure that the dealer will provide a signed statement of authenticity, and that the condition of the print is at least very good. A money-back guarantee of satisfaction is also usual practice among reputable dealers. If you are considering buying in an online auction, you need to be very careful. You cant be sure that the seller is providing accurate information, and there is no question of returning an item if its not satisfactory. When it comes to buying from an online auction, its buyer beware.
If you plan to frame an antique print as a gift, the work is best done by a local framer whom you trust. Ordering your framing job over the internet is usually not a good choice the appearance of the frame and the quality of materials are hard to judge on a screen. So leave an extra three weeks for the framing work. Finally, remember that the more specific the requirements you demand of an antique map or print, the earlier you will want to begin searching for it. Dealers are at their busiest around holiday times
, so start your shopping early. Happy hunting.
Improve Family Bonds Through Touch
Monday, January 26th, 2009Copyright (c) 2007 Liddle Kidz Infant and Children’s Pediatric Massage
When your baby first arrives your bond may begin immediately, or it may take you both time to get to know each other. One thing we know for sure is that bonding is essential for a baby.
Studies of newborn rhesus monkeys performed by Dr. Harry Harlow, show that these same monkeys when given a choice between two surrogate “mothers,” one made of terrycloth, the other of wire and had food, overwhelmingly the baby monkeys chose the mother that could provide warmth and comfort. It was found that the young monkeys clung to the terrycloth mother whether it provided them with food or not, and that the young monkeys chose the wire surrogate only when it provided food. They would eat their food and return to the terrycloth mother for comfort.
In other research studies, when baby monkeys were placed with mannequin mothers at birth it showed that, despite the efforts of the baby monkeys to get a response through touching and holding the mannequins, the lack of a parental response caused sadness, stunted development, and failure to thrive in the young monkeys. Scientists suspect that lack of bonding in human babies causes similar problems.
Luckily for us humans, most infants are ready to bond immediately. Parents, on the other hand, may have mixed feelings about it. Many parents feel an intense attachment within the first moments or days after their baby’s birth. For others, especially if baby is adopted or has been placed in intensive care, this all important bonding may take a bit longer.
Bonding is a process, and is not something that takes place within a few moments of time or is limited to happening within a certain time period after baby’s arrival. For many families, bonding happens naturally as the result of everyday care giving. It is quite possible you may not even know it is happening until you observe your baby’s first smile, make eye contact, and suddenly realize that you’re filled with love for your new baby.
If you want to encourage your bonding to happen you may wish to try massaging your baby. By massaging your infant you are helping to encourage your bond through skin-to-skin and eye-to-eye contact. This type of loving interaction helps you, as the parent, to recognize your baby’s unique cues and respond appropriately. Meeting your little one’s needs assists in building a lifelong bond of love and trust.
The best way to get started is to take an infant massage class or private lessons so that you can learn the many benefits of infant massage, as well as numerous strokes that you and baby may enjoy. Not all parents and babies like all of the massage strokes, but having a variety of massage strokes in your memory bank will help to vary the massage with your baby as they grow and develop different likes and dislikes. Through finding a special massage that works for you
, your family bond will continue to strengthen and grow.
The Amish Touch For Your Dining Room
Friday, November 28th, 2008It can sometimes be an extremely difficult affair when it comes to
choosing furniture for your dining room. You need to take into
consideration the many and various questions such as size, style, type
of wood and quality, color and a variety of other factors. With so many
options available, your safest decision would probably be to go with
furniture that is sure to last, so that twenty years from now, your
dining room set having aged, has yet aged like wine, for indeed there
is something of the antique to its look and feel.
With such considerations. Amish dining room furniture
is perhaps your best bet when looking for that perfect combination of
homeliness and the touch of elegance and handcrafted design made to
last a lifetime. Whether you are looking for a new dining room table,
chairs, or a hutch, Amish furniture is worth much more than the time and money that you would otherwise spend on second rate designs.
Amish furniture is vastly superior from the majority of popular brands
and designs available, and this is really due to a number of reasons.
In the first place, there is the fact that each piece of Amish
furniture is handcrafted, and as such is uniquely its own, brought to
life, as it were, by an artist who puts a human touch into the natural
wood, giving a spirit to it which can only be achieved through
individual attention and work. This stands in contrast the very
lifeless and often overly mechanical designs which come forth every day
in the thousands from the many industrial factories, copies made from
second rate material, often uneven, easily broken, and easily worn. On
the other hand, Amish furniture is made from the highest quality wood,
whether that be Oak or Maple, individually selected and formed together
into a sturdy and solid piece, made to last.
Naturally, many of you may be thinking that the quality of Amish
furniture would probably be a good indication that the prices are way
above your budget. You would be surprised however to find that in fact,
Amish furniture is much more affordable than what you may have
initially thought, particularly if you consider going to any of the
retailers who offer wholesale Amish furniture, where bargain prices for
top quality furniture might be found.
When choosing any piece for your dining room, Amish furniture offers a
wide variety and selection of wood as well as different staining
options, so that you can custom design your dining table or hutch to
suit the specific needs of your house as well as your own tastes.
Whether you have more of a classic taste or the breezy light feel of
the country, Amish furniture offers the best selection for your
interests and style.
So if you were in doubt when it came to choosing a new dining room set, you might want to think about choosing Amish handcrafted furniture
,
which is guaranteed to bring both comfort and satisfaction to your home
- as well as to your evening meals – which you may have been looking
for.
Baby Showers with a Whimsical Touch
Wednesday, November 26th, 2008Invitations are a window into what the party will be like. If the invitation is whimsical, the party will be whimsical. If the invitations are elegant, the party will be elegant; they set the mood of the event. If the invitations are sent out early, are neat and have a lot of thought put into them, the guest can expect a well organized, entertaining and overall delightful experience.
With so many options for baby shower decorations, why not have a theme with your party? Invitations, favors, centerpieces and decorations can all be matched to correspond with your theme. At www.Baby-Showers-Etc.com there are several party items to choose from.
Planning a baby shower is filled with responsibility on several different levels. The host has to figure out who should be invited. It this going to be a party where men are invited? What kind of a party would the expectant mother appreciate? How are the guests going to be entertained while at the party? These are some of the little details that pop up during the preparations; essential, but not thought of immediately. These decisions, however, are just as significant as what color scheme will be used, just not as obvious.
If the expectant mother comes from a big family or has a lot of close friends, you might be offered some help by a couple of those people. Accept any help that is offered. Don’t try to handle everything on your own
, but be sure to accept help from those who are reliable. The most important thing is that the guests have fun and the expectant mother goes home happy.
