Christmas, a time to celebrate and enjoy with friends and family, and a time to deck up your homes with festive decorations such as lights, color, ornaments, stars, crib and of course the Christmas tree. A large number of retail stores begin selling their Christmas decorations around July or September. Despite the fact that Christmas decorations are available that early, not everyone terms September or July as being early, when it comes to shopping for decorations. Christmas decorations used to be put up on Christmas Eve and not before.??? In modern Britain, however, most people put up their decorations about a fortnight to a week before Christmas Day (although Public displays are usually in place around 1st December).??? Here are some decorations you could make for the festive season.
Make a display of festive seasonal dolls or bears. You can add a small Christmas tree with little presents. This is a great way to get your children involved. Another idea to help give your home that Christmas spirit is to use Christmas ribbon to tie bows all over your home. If you are out of Christmas ornaments, use your Christmas cookie cutters with a little ribbon. You can??t go wrong. It’s nice
, and absolutely pleasant.

With all of the hurrying hullabaloo and ultra modern engineering of this age people often become nostalgic for ‘simpler’ times ?? especially around the Christmas holidays. Visions of Norman Rockwell pictures of ‘Victorian era’ looking villages blanketed in snow with happy carolers singing while children eagerly await the arrival of Saint Nicholas dance through our imaginations. The thinkings of eggnog and trimming a beautiful tree make our hearts feel merry. These “old time” visions are the reasons why many of us desire vintage Christmas ornaments for decorating our homes. However, truly old vintage ornaments can be hard, and costly, to find.
Few years ago, this nostalgic desire for things of long ago caused a boom in such items and opened the way for a new type of business: the artistic production of vintage Christmas ornaments. A lot of artisans through Internet based and regular retail stores now offer the opportunity to purchase this type of classic Christmas ornaments, made out of tin, paper, cardboard, silver etc. Hand-blown, amazing glass ornaments to dazzle the eye, vintage twenties looking tin ornaments engraved with the early renditions of jolly old Saint Nick, and softly shining bubble lights in an array of beautiful colors.
Crystal looking garlands made out of sapphire-colored glass beaded balls, to hang on the Christmas tree along with small horns and drums. Perhaps a tin tree top star painted with a scene right out of a Norman Rockwell painting or a gold and silver foil angel shimmering in the soft lights of the pine scented tree.
A handmade garland of popcorn strung around the tree along with glass ‘icicles’ shining by the light of burning candles. These tiny “gift” looking ornaments and other glass, tin, silver, gold, tin or cotton decorations that look like fruits, vegetables, birds… In the past, people used to use tiny candles placed in holders to illuminate the Christmas tree… Actually, this use was a very high-risk idea as it resulted in a huge number of fire; however contemporary world brought to us alternatives that look like real old timey candle without the open fire.
Wreaths made of foil and tin with pearls or angels attached attached are now available in addition to the even more traditional wreaths made of pine boughs and holly with colored glass balls. Modern Christmas garlands are not as beautiful as vintage garlands made out of small pine limbs tied with natural bond such as hemp and decorated with holly berries and pine cones.
For a lot of us, Christmas time is a time to relax and think of an old time when things weren’t so harried. While we forget the humdrum of our life as well as the nine to five, we take advantage of the Christmas period to dream with some nostalgia to Victorian wintertimes, when humans, like any other creature on earth, had a bit of rest. The beautiful and wonderful vintage Christmas ornaments seem to have the power to revive for a lot of us the soft and warm atmosphere of yester-years. So do not wait to raise Norman Rockwell’s imaginary and foremost
, have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

The child that doesn’t need entertaining during school holidays is a rare beast indeed. My kids are usually pretty good at amusing themselves, certainly for large parts of their holidays, but even they sometimes surprise me.
Cue the start of the summer holidays for example. You would have thought that they would be looking forward to the holidays, 6 weeks off school and a family trip to France to come? No. On the first morning I had one of them tell me they were bored!
I am sure that if you have kids yourself, then you will be familiar with the scene I have just portrayed. It certainly made the start of the next school term seem a very long way away!
Because of these kind of problems, I am always on the lookout for help to entertain the kids. This particular holiday, I will be looking forward to finding some Christmas activities for children. For that reason, I was excited to find a review of a couple of products that can help me; not only with Christmas, but with other holidays in the future.
What I found was two distinct reports; one specifically dedicated to Christmas activities, and another with a broader appeal, although it’s contents would cover Christmas as well. If your kids like art and crafts especially (most children will turn their hands to making things and drawing and colouring), then these reports are certainly worth investigating.
One of the reports covers all sorts of activities from cards such as Christmas cards, birthday cards, baby showers and similar activities, to games puzzles and colouring galore. The great thing about electronic delivery of course, is that these activities can be printed again and again and again. Kids will repeat games they like ad infinitum. The saving in costs trying to amuse kids is huge
, and the improvement to your sanity is massive.
The top picks for christmas activities for children. Find out the best there is for keeping the kids amused this christmas.

Do you think Congress would give Middle American a Christmas gift following the Pay It Forward and Help Others concept? It is evident that our government, politicians, White House and Treasury is willing to save Wall Street and not Main Street who are especially in need.
One could write quite a few articles about The Treasury Secretary and his rise to power from those same Wall Street Companies but what purpose would that accomplish?
It is also more than evident that our American Main Street will be left to fend for themselves holding out in hopes of keeping their families together and holding out long enough for the change in the White House administration.
Main Street is left to solve the problems themselves and it makes you wonder what they can do without having a dollar printing machine like Treasury?
Think about this… Recently the movie Pay It Forward has been recirculating and given a new life on of all places Youtube. Take a moment and watch the movie if you have never seen it.
Today aren’t we all skeptical about anyone doing us a favor or helping us in any way? Don’t we judge the people around us to make sure they are good enough to be near us? Aren’t we hesitant to ask anyone for help?
The Pay It Forward and Help Others concept has been gaining momentum when other programs have fallen by the wayside. Helen Hunt who played the mother in the movie version perfectly, kept asking why… why are you here? To the dirty, scruffy looking bum who was in her kitchen with her son.
His simple explanation that he was paying the generosity of her son forward to another person, a mother. Paying it forward to improve the life of another was what he wanted to do as her son had done for him.
Wait a minute here… could this system at all be used to help Main Street during these recession – depressionesk looking times? The even bigger question that will need answered must certainly be – Can Main Street change their ways and accept the generosity of a stranger?
Would you help another person on Main Street if you could? Do you have any idea how that would make you feel? Then suppose you did it again, and then again, and again. The Pay It Forward and Help Others Concept is just that simple.
If you by chance are near the Baby Boomer age bracket you might remember the days when the entire neighborhood shared produce and helped each other in the neighborhood. Why have we moved away from that? Have we been following in the footsteps of our elected officials… not helping those that truly need help but instead being foolish and throwing our money at bad ideas with no thought of the consequences? Congress has been doing that for a long time now, recently dumping over 700 BILLION without so much as a question? Congress is finding it hard to help homeowners and Main Street who make up this country.
If you need more proof of the Congress’ elitism… think about how they made the automakers drive to DC in cars to beg for help when that very same Congress flew home in their private jets for the holidays after the meetings. Congress even demanded the auto unions and auto makes to reduce health care benefits and salaries? Wouldn’t it have shown character if Congress reduced their OWN first? You know, leading by example. Thereby reducing the national debt.
Oh and let us not forget Senator Reids’ speech, just last week, talking about “smelly tourists”, which means you and me. Aren’t we the Main Street tax payers?
This Pay It Forward and Help Others concept helps Main Street not Wall Street and not Congress. It is as simple as that.
Pay It Forward and Help Others, period.
Main Street helping Main Street
, now that is a new idea!

Family Christmas Holiday Tradition gives us freedom and guidance in a time that is otherwise hectic and stressful, and often unorganized. Tradition gives us a blueprint of how our family anticipates and loves the holiday season, what they expect, how they love to celebrate.
This is Part II of our Family Christmas Holiday Tradition. (Read Part I also for great holiday ideas.)
7. When the holiday draws nearer, we children got more and more excited. When we were high-spirited and tempestuous, mom just needed to say. “Look, an angle’s hair!” And we would look in awe and see really a golden hair. Little did we know that mom must have made some gift packages and the golden threat must have fallen on the floor. But for us children this was a sure sign that Christmas was near. Mom left signs of the coming holy night everywhere for us, so we would remember to be good, and patient, and kind. This made it easier for us children, who yearned for that long awaited Christmas Day!
8. Then, one day the wait was over – the 24th of December dawned. We children had to take a little afternoon nap – I am sure mom needed the time to make last adjustments to the Christmas tree and the arrangement of our Christmas presents. In Europe the Christmas tree is the highlight of the 24th. The tree is hidden from view for children, and for the first time seen in the holy night when the door to the Christmas room magically opens. The room is locked already the night before Christmas. We children were especially attentive – maybe we would hear a movement in the Christmas room – maybe an angle came by – or the Christkind personally – to bring presents!
9. The nap on the 24th was very hard for us kids. Who can sleep when such an excitement lies in the air? When we finally got up, we laid on our best clothes. Then mom came with the traditional Christmas storybook! It was a story of a little boy named Heinele, who’s mother had sent him out in rags into the bitter cold winter night to sell toys to the busy people on the streets – who rushed home to their family celebration without even noticing him. The boy went into the woods and as he looked in the snow – lonely and ice cold – he found the Golden Star of Christmas.
At the same time in heaven, the angles were hectic, looking for the Golden Star that Christkind had lost as it flew over the winter world on earth. Finally they found the frozen boy, holding the Golden Star tight in his hand. He was dead. They took the boy into heaven. Here it was warm. It gave plenty to eat, and Heinele was truly happy – probably for the first time in his young life. But the good boy, as he saw that his mother in the cold house down on earth was crying because her child did not come home, returned to earth to comfort his mom, bringing her true Christmas love. Love reigned over the joy and comfort of staying in heaven. A true sacrifice.
And while we children hang on every word that came from mom’s lips, suddenly – first faint but then louder – we heard the clear Christmas bell. It signaled that Christkind was here! We would rash to the Christmas room. The doors silently swung open. And we would stand there in awe, still and devout, our wide open eyes reflecting Christmas Spirit. The Christmas tree would stand in all its magic beauty – brightly shining with many real candles and magic stars. We would sing Christmas carols and dad would read the Christmas story from the Holy Bible.
Finally we children could rush to our Christmas presents – many big and little gift-wrapped boxes in all colors, decorated with beautiful ribbons and a fir twig on each gift box. We had each a little extra corner right under the Christmas tree, and close to the crib where Maria and Josef and the beautiful baby would remind us of the reason for our joy. To find our space, the packages had little cards with our names on them. And the Ah and Oh was great!
10. And mom did not forget the lonely people outside. She put a warm shining candle in each window to greet those who were lonely and cold this night.
11. The Christmas dinner was another highlight of the day. We had our traditional fish dinner with potato salad which I loved. The table was set with grace and glister. Each set had a mandarin that held a Christmas candle. Fir twigs were decorating the table. It was festive and the candle light reflected in our smiles!
12. The Midnight Christmas mass was for the older kids. I remember sitting in church and seeing the happy smiles on every face. This alone showed me that in this special night a miracle must have occurred. I could see the new hat, the new shawl, new boots that people were wearing. Everyone had something new this night. And if it was not a new piece of cloth, it was the renewed hope and light in their heart that held the promise that life is good and all is well, no matter the life circumstances.
Today I am old. My children are out of the house and I am alone again. But at Christmas time, I still remember my family’s holiday tradition: the haunting scent of Christmas; the dazzling light that lightens the eye that looks into the world with hope; music and laughter that fills the hearts and the room at Christmas eve. I thank my parents for the wonderful Christmas tradition that they had given us – a tradition that lives on …
When Christmas holiday draws near, don’t let yourself be burdened by stressful last minute holiday preparations. Follow your time proven family holiday tradition – and if you don’t have a holiday tradition yet
, manifest your own! Utilize some of the suggestions I shared with you from our own family Christmas holiday tradition.

Stock Designs
There are many different ways to customize Christmas cards. Some companies offer a basic selection of different art, messages, and types of paper. You can mix and match from standard designs, so that the finished product represents your personal preferences. Many companies allow customers to select among stock greetings and papers, and will imprint the cover with the customer’s personal photo, company logo, or other design.
Unique Designs
You may also choose to create a Christmas card design that is completely customized. You can write your own message and use your own drawing, painting, or photograph to create your own cards. Some people use their home computers to design and print customized cards, and others have the cards they design printed professionally.
If you aren’t artistically inclined, you can also have professional artwork created for your customized greeting cards. Many printing shops have on-staff graphic designers and illustrators who will illustrate a card design that is uniquely yours. Of course, having an original design created for your Christmas cards will cost more than if you use your own photograph or choose a card design from stock images.
Printing Choices
The most typical custom Christmas card style is the traditional single fold card with an image on the front and a caption or poem on the inside. The signature can be printed directly on the card, or they can be signed by hand. Customized cards are sometimes printed on postcard stock, which keeps senders from having to worry about stuffing envelopes. Postage is also less expensive for postcards than traditional greeting cards.
Electronic Holiday Greetings
Electronic Christmas cards are also gaining in popularity. Many people choose to send e-greetings instead of Christmas cards. Those who are skilled computer users often find it quite simple to create customized electronic cards. Sending e-mail holiday greetings can save printing costs and postage expense. It also reduces paper usage, which is a bonus for environmentally responsible consumers.
Creating custom Christmas cards is easier than ever before. With so many different and economical ways to develop unique and personalized cards, you don’t have to settle for standard
, off-the-shelf holiday greeting cards.
